Remove all standing trees in the clearcut, except you could leave islands of trees with visual interest. While some people may prefer to leave conifers for their esthetic appeal, conifers--especially pines--serve as roost trees for hawks and owls that prey on ruffed grouse. Islands of hardwoods are preferable where grouse are desired.
