Aspen stands are relatively fire resistant because they generally produce a low amount of fuel. But fires that do burn through a stand can easily kill or injure aspen. Aspen killed by fire will root sucker, but the economic value of the original stand will be lost. Keep fire out of aspen stands, except when required for site preparation following a harvest.
