There may be situations where you have only a few scattered aspen trees in a woodland, but you want to expand the area covered by aspen, perhaps for its value as wildlife food and cover. In this situation, cut the aspen to stimulate root suckering and clearcut all other woody vegetation for 60 feet in every direction plus an additional 30 feet to the south. The extended cutting area to the south reduces shade on the clearcut favoring aspen sucker growth.
