Old and heavily diseased stands or those stocked with fewer than 50 aspen trees per acre may not regenerate sufficient root suckers to produce a commercially stocked stand. Root suckering will be most prolific if trees are felled during the dormant season. Avoid harvesting when the soil is saturated.
