Aspen is a very important tree for its wood, wildlife and esthetic value, but periodic harvesting is needed to rejuvenate aspen stands. Aspen is relatively easy to regenerate from root suckers following a harvest. But, without harvesting, it will die from disease and will be replaced by shrubs, grass or other tree species.
