A guide to natural landscaping and revegetation for enhancing lake quality
NOTE: This is a Web Sampler. Information about the complete publication and how to order it is available here.
Natural shoreland enhances the quality of lakes by giving fish and wildlife a place to live and protecting water quality. Natural shoreland vegetation protects your property from erosion and runoff, and reduces the time on yard maintenance.
An essential part of a successful natural landscape is a design that works with your property. The Shoreland Landscape Series shows you how to achieve a natural landscape through revegetation and shoreland editing (a step-by-step process dictated by your own tastes and needs).
The series consists of four publications:
1. Natural Shoreland Landscaping provides information on planning a landscape using a base map of your property and using shoreland editing on undeveloped sites.
2. Choosing Plants for Shoreland Revegetation introduces common native perennials that are good choices for revegetating shorelands in the upper Midwest.
3. Wave Break Structures for Lakeshore Revegetation gives you information on structures that protect shoreland areas from the impact of waves and shows you how to build your own temporary wave break.
4. Planting Shoreland Vegetation gives instructions on site preparation, and how to plant and maintain vegetation.
The Shoreland Landscape Series provides information to help lakeshore residents and others protect or restore their property, while enhancing the environmental quality of their lake. This series includes information on:
