Annual Report

In addition to translating scientific knowledge into useful, practical programs and materials, we facilitate learning and developmental processes necessary for change in communities across the state.

Programs developed by Extension educators who work in offices around the state reflect local concerns and the applied knowledge of the University of Minnesota and other state and national research sources. Educators work with local advisory committees and seek local input to identify needs and to design programs to meet those needs. They continually serve as educational resources, facilitators, and advisors to local, regional, and statewide organizations, governments, agencies, leaders, and businesses. This unique form of outreach intentionally builds knowledge capacity at the local level.

Faculty on University campuses and at Research and Outreach Centers conduct applied research and interpret research from other scholars in response to state and local needs. They provide educational leadership and serve as resources to Extension offices, state agencies, public officials, professional associations, business and industry, and other state and national groups.
Minnesotans trust Extension because of our long history of providing relevant and credible educational programs that address real-life issues. Our strength lies in our:
  • Local linkages in communities throughout Minnesota
  • Connection to the research base of the University of Minnesota and other national research centers
  • Network of citizens, scientists, and educators working together
  • Partnerships with local, state, and national governments and organizations
  • Ability to build individual and community capacity
  • Unbiased, credible information and programs.
