Russian comfrey, Symphytum uplandicum, hybrid isan aggressive, hardy perennial herb that makes a great groundcover. Comfrey can be propagated by root offsets with a growing tip, or purchase plants. Once established, it is hard to get rid of it as it puts down a very long taproot. There is some question as to whether it is safe to eat. The leaves have a high potash content that makes them a possible fertilizer for tomatoes and potatoes.
