Parents Forever: Impact of Divorce on Adults Educator Guide

Introduction

During this session parents will learn about the impact divorce will have on their lives. They will gain a better understanding of the process of divorce and how much of one's life divorce affects. They will look at tools to help them adapt to a new life.

This session also examines unrealistic expectations people often bring relationships, and how those expectations can lead to a marriage that is more likely to falter or fail. Ways to amend or avoid these kinds of expectations in a new relationship are discussed.

Parents are taught about anger, and how to cope with its manifestations. Methods of diffusing anger are suggested to help parents handle their emotions in new ways. Stress is also discussed, including how to recognize and cope with it.

Finally, family safety needs are addressed. Parents are taught how to avoid conflict and where to turn in times of need. They are taught how to recognize child and spousal abuse. They are given current information about keeping themselves safe, now and in the future.
