Parents Forever: Legal Issues and the Role of Mediation in Divorce Educator Guide

Conclusion

The legal aspects of divorce can be among the most difficult divorce experiences for parents. The legal system can be baffling, and it is not unusual for parents to want to take out the anger and disappointment of their divorce on judges, lawyers, and others involved in the process. Tools like mediation can bring a renewed sense of control and competence to frustrated parents, allowing them to make decisions about their future so that the courts don't have to decide for them.

Because divorce laws vary from state to state and are complex everywhere, and because every situation is different, legal community resources are invaluable in making this portion of PARENTS FOREVER accurate and meaningful. As subject matter experts from your community make themselves available to parents, even for this brief session, parents come away with a better understanding of what the legal system does, and how they can make their way through it in a manner that best helps their situation.
