Introduction

Most parents experience financial upheaval when they get divorced. Money can become a pressing issue for parents immediately, or it may take some time for the money changes to be felt and adjustments made. In this handbook, we focus on the emotional, social, and financial consequences of these money changes. As we discuss how to assess your money changes and handle your money in the future, we will be focusing on how to secure the financial security of your children.

We will be talking about money changes in two ways:

  • We will discuss how to adjust to suddenly reduced income, the most common experience of divorcing parents.
  • We will show how to figure out the cost of raising your children, so that you can better plan for their future and your own.
