Session 1

Introduction

As parents, you begin your job the minute your children are born and your role continues for a lifetime. Unfortunately no one can totally prepare you for this role. Even individual children in the same family can act quite differently. Parenting education offers some answers, but other answers come only from living through situations and dealing with them as well as you can at the time. Parenting is a tough role but a very rewarding one in the long run.

This handbook offers some tools that can help you during a time of transition in your family. It also offers a lot of information that will help you both during these educational sessions and in the future. As parents, you both need to play a role in your children's lives; you both need to work together to let go of the past, focus on the future, and develop a new beginning for your children.

These are the questions addressed in this second half of this handbook, along with suggestions and information designed to help you help your children.
