The Minnesota Crop Production Retailers Association and University of Minnesota Extension are again jointly organizing the 2007 CPM Short Course and MCPR Trade Show December 4th through the 6th, 2007, at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The 3-day program starts Tuesday, December 4th, with the TSP training program and MCPR’s plenary session and annual meeting. Speakers include Dr. Benjamin Gruber, EPA’s Assistant Administrator for Water, discussing EPA’s perspective of water quality in Minnesota and Paul Liemandt, Manager of Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s Environmental Response & Enforcement Section, helping you understand the importance of compliance with pesticide law.
On Wednesday, December 5th, the program will continue with pesticide applicator recertification for categories A (Core) and C (Field Crop Pest Management) and the Crop Pest Management Short Course. On Wednesday morning the CPM Short Course’s General Session will have an energy theme when Drs. Hans Jung, Wally Wilhelm, Michael Russelle, and Joe Lauer present and discuss the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead for the cellulosic ethanol to become a reality and for corn based ethanol to thrive in Minnesota.
The concurrent sessions Wednesday afternoon will focus on continuous corn production and improving the application of crop protection products. The concurrent sessions continue on Thursday, December 6th, with a wealth of pests, crop and fertility management topics including the biology of insecticide resistance, the value of soil testing for nitrogen recommendations, the effectiveness of the soybean aphid resistance gene, and the progress in management of IDC. The program will end Thursday afternoon at 3:00 pm to allow for a timely return home.
All concurrent sessions will run for 50 minutes and offer 1.0 CCA CEU/topic. The full program will be available November first and can be reviewed by visiting the Institute for Ag Professionals website (www.iap.umn.edu).
The NRCS will provide USDA’s Technical Service Providers training needed for TSP certification on December 4th. The program expands on the shorter version offered at the 2006 CPM Short Course and MCPR Trade Show, emphasizing the pest management equivalent module 7 and an expanded discussion on the Microsoft’s Windows based pesticide screening tool. The pesticide applicator recertification program for categories A (General Ground) and C (Field Crop Pest Management) is planned for all day Wednesday, December 5, and will be last offering for recertification in 2007.
