Changing pest dynamics, new management options, and increasing input costs and higher corn prices add new wrinkles to corn rootworm management. Here’s your chance to explore the latest research and technological developments in a workshop and tour hosted by Ken Ostlie, Extension Entomologist and Bruce Potter, IPM specialist held at UMORE Park near Rosemount on July 31 and Southwest Research and Outreach Center near Lamberton on Aug. 2.
These workshops will feature presentations on rootworm injury and loss, assessing risk, transgenic resistance, refuge management options and new management challenges.
Tours of current research comparing transgenic technologies and exploring the implications of volunteer herbicide-resistant corn on corn rootworm population dynamics will follow. Registration will begin at 8:30AM with the workshop beginning at 9AM. NOTE : Emerging problems with soybean aphid and two-spotted spidermites also will be featured during the tour. Tours will conclude at noon with a lunch and discussion.
