Distance Education Workshops: Western Bean Cutworm and Soybean Aphids

Fritz Breitenbach , Entomology Educator

Two Multi-State Distance Education Workshops will be conducted at several sites across Minnesota. The first of the two programs (February 28th) will focus on Western Bean Cutworm.

Western bean cutworm has rarely been associated as a pest in southern Minnesota corn production. The incidence of this pest has been on the increase in adjoining states to our south. Corn growers, and agribusiness professionals and other interested groups who are interested in learning more about the history, spread, identification, and potential management of western bean cutworm should plan on attending.

The second of the two programs (March 6th) will focus on Managing Soybean Aphids in 2007 and the impacts that biological controls may exert.

Soybean aphids have become a state wide pest on soybeans. This program will focus on the role biological control plays in the management of soybean aphid. Soybean growers, and agribusiness professionals and other interested groups who are interested in learning more about the potential role biological control imparts in the management of soybean aphid should plan on attending.

CEUs have been applied for.
