Soybean Yield Drivers & Profit Robbers
A high-yield soybean educational conference for growers and Ag professionals

Soybean Yield Drivers & Profit Robbers is a program developed by the University of Minnesota Extension Service to help address key management issues of soybean producers in Southern Minnesota. Current issues and research in crop production will be discussed and led by University of Minnesota experts with the intent to ultimately help increase a producer’s bottom line. Topics to be covered include: soybean economics, soybean agronomics, soybean diseases, weed management, insect management, and soils (fertility and iron chlorosis). This program should provide useful and timely information for producers and Ag professionals alike.

In addition to the soybean management programming growers will have the opportunity to participate in several hands on activities.

Hands on activities at both locations include:

  • Soybean Protein & Oil testing
    • Growers need to bring a sample (1 pint) of soybeans for the Free test
    • Tests are provided courtesy of the University of Minnesota Soybean Breeding Project and the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association
  • Live Soybean Cyst Nematodes
    • Ever wonder what you're looking for when scouting your soybeans for SCN? (live samples will be on hand with microscopes)
    • SCN sampling and management information will be provided
    • Nematode samples provided courtesy of the University of Minnesota Nematology Lab at the SROC in Waseca
  • University of Minnesota Plant Disease Clinic
    • Representatives from the disease clinic will be available to answer your questions
    • Learn about the services provided by the clinic, how to submit samples, and where to send your samples

Pre-registration is encouraged and ends on Friday, March 3, 2006.
To register, call the University of Minnesota Regional Extension Center in Albert Lea at 1-888-241-0718 or send in the sign-up form from the brochure located at the Internet address listed above. The fee for the program is $35 per participant. On-site registrations will be accepted on a space available basis. Several County Soybean Growers Associations will be offering a scholarship for members who attend the session or for those who join the organization at the session.

Registration starts at 8:30 and the program will run from 9:00 to 2:30 at each site. A noon meal will be provided at each location courtesy of local sponsors.

Certified Crop Advisor CEUs in the areas of Nutrient Management, Integrated Pest Management and Professional Development will be applied for these educational programs.
