Are you interested in learning more
about crops other than corn and soybeans? Would you like
to expand your rotation but aren’t sure where to
start? If you are interested in cropping options beyond
a conventional corn-soybean rotation, plan to attend the
Alternative Crops Workshop at the University of Minnesota
Southwest Research and Outreach Center in Lamberton on
Thursday, September 8th from 9:00 to 3:30.
This workshop will address why an increasing number of
producers are looking at alternative cropping options,
current marketing opportunities in alternative crops, the
implications of growing an alternative crop from a government
program and insurance standpoint, current research in alternative
crops, and provide an opportunity for attendees to hear
from farmers currently growing and marketing alternative
crops. Tools to help you get started and evaluate your
own situation will also be discussed at the workshop.
This workshop will be useful for anyone who is interested
in learning more about alternative crops. To register for
this workshop, contact Molly at the SWROC in Lamberton
at 507-752-7372 by September 6th. Pre-registration is
required for a meal count. A $15 registration fee will
be collected at the door to help cover program, meal, and
refreshment costs. Further information on this workshop
is available in the brochure and agenda (both
pdf), or by contacting Liz Stahl, Regional Extension Educator
in Crops at 507-372-3912 or stah0012@umn.edu.
This workshop is sponsored by the University of Minnesota
Extension Service, Minnesota Department of Agriculture,
North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and
Education, and Rural Advantage. |
