Q: How much does the program cost?
A: The program fee is $1,200 or $2,150. ($1,200 for double occupancy lodging and $2,150 for single occupancy lodging). After the early bird registration deadline of July 10, the cost of the program increases by $200 to $1,400 and $2,350.
Q: Are scholarships available?
A: In the past, scholarships have been available through sponsoring Extension Centers, through generous alumni donations, and from general program funds. In 2015 there are a limited number of scholarships of up to $400 available. If cost is a barrier to your participation, please don't hesitate to contact one of the educators or an Extension Center for which you volunteer. We believe in doing what we can to eliminate barriers to participation and supporting our amazing volunteers and collaborators. Please note, you must register for a double room if you receive a scholarship. Scholarship application deadline is May 25, 2015.
Q: If I select double occupancy, can I choose my roommate?
A: Unless you sign up with a specific roommate, rooming assignments will be assigned at random and will vary for each session.
Q: When do sessions typically begin?
A: Sessions usually begin at 1:00 pm on Wednesday and finish at noon on Friday. However, session times are subject to change based upon location and tours. Before each session you'll be receiving a detailed agenda which will include session times and meeting locations.
Q: Are meals included?
A: Many meals are included in the program fee. We will make an effort to find hotels that serve a continental breakfast. We will typically have one group dinner and one group lunch per session as well. Light snacks will also be provided on days we are in a classroom type setting.
Q: Will there be a lot of walking?
A: The ULAA program highlights Extension programs throughout Minnesota. The site visits often require walking on uneven terrain, standing for long periods of time, and activities that will allow you to venture out of a classroom setting.
Q: Will transportation be provided?
A: Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from each session. Once at the session, we'll carpool to the different site visits. The airfare to the national study tour is included in the cost of the program.
Q: What if I miss a session?
A: You are encouraged to attend every session. However, we know that as adults, there are many unexpectancies and extraneous circumstances that conflict with session attendance. Please notify us in advance if you plan to miss a session.
Q: What are some of the leadership tools we'll be using?
A: Each participant will receive a copy of Strengths Based Leadership by Tom Rath and Barry Conchie. Your book will provide you with a unique access code to take the StrengthsFinder assessment tool online.
Q: Tell me more about the international study tour.
A: Every three years we will be offering an optional international study tour for ULAA alumni. The tour will combine site visits with learning opportunities. There will be a participation fee to attend the international study tour. The first international study tour will be in the fall of 2016.
Q: I'm not very tech savvy. Can I still sign up?
A: Absolutely! ULAA 7 will have peer learning opportunities that include tips on technology apps and other useful tech resources for community leaders. There will also be a few webinars. Support will be provided to help you navigate the technology we'll be using.
Q: I've signed up before, but I'm really interested in this topic. Can I sign up again?
A: Yes! Much of the leadership content will be similar from year to year. However, we do vary our content based on leadership research. You may consider calling one of the ULAA educators to talk through if attending again will be a good fit for you.
