Educational Offerings

Citizen Science Training for Adult Leaders: Starting in 2012, we will offer training for teachers, nature center, 4-H and other youth service staff on leading successful citizen science teams to enable youth inqury without close scientist mentorship. This workshop will build from the successful strategies that we learn through working with our citizen science research teams.

Citizen Science Research Teams: Research teams composed of youth researchers, adult leaders and a scientist mentor will take part in an approximately 12-week out-of-school citizen science program focused on monarchs or birds. Through participation in these nationally reputable programs, youth and adults will be immersed in the scientific endeavor - observing carefully their outdoor surroundings, systematically collecting and reporting scientific data. Research teams will also complete a series of activities to help youth understand and apply the scientific process based on their citizen science experiences. Finally, the youth will design and carry out their own projects with few limitations.
