Public Symposiums

From Inquiry to Impact: Bridging Research and Practice in Youth Development — We sponsor an ongoing symposium series including the Howland Symposium. These free events bring together youth researchers, policy makers and stakeholders to discuss topical issues in youth development, to bridge the latest research with implications for youth work policy, programs, practice and public education/awareness.

Applied Research

The Applied Research Collaborative plays a leadership role in conducting research to advance theory, policy and practice in the field of youth work. The collaborative develops, stimulates and collaborates in national and state research to advance the field of out of school time and guide capacity building investments. Evaluation

Evaluation studies and activities are designed to:

  • Assess the effectiveness of our training opportunities for youth work program staff and volunteers
  • Measure satisfaction, impact and outcomes for program staff, volunteers and the youth they serve
  • Monitor outputs for 4-H youth programs

Networking

The collaborative provides a networking forum for identification of key issues and strategies needed to move the Minnesota Commission on Out of School Time's vision forward. Luncheon forums, gatherings and retreats feature in-depth interaction with experts in the field of youth development to inform thinking around current and emerging issues and to prioritize areas where research is needed to address critical questions.
