About the Poultry Production and Health program

Increasing health and profits in the poultry industry

Focus on management, new products, and new markets

Minnesota's poultry industry brings in more than $800 million in income for producers, processors, and related industries. Educational efforts by University of Minnesota Extension translate into increased profits and healthier poultry care. We help the poultry industry improve management techniques, develop new products, and find new markets. The poultry production and health program develops educational materials and programs for the commercial poultry industry, niche producers, Extension educators, youth, and consumers.

What we offer

In addition to research-based articles and educational materials, we provide programming for Future Farmers of America and 4-H youth; host the annual University Turkey Research Review; support the Turkey Production Demonstration media day; help maintain websites on Poultry U, avian flu, and the Avian Pneumovirus Center; and teach courses such as Turkey School, Poultry Ventilation School, and Chicken Layer School I and II. University of Minnesota Extension has one of the few turkey nutrition extension programs in the United States. Turkey nutrition and reproduction research is conducted at the University of Minnesota's Rosemount Research and Outreach Center.
