About Agricultural Irrigation Extension
The irrigation program at University of Minnesota Extension focuses on boosting knowledge and understanding of how irrigation best management practices maximize yields while conserving water resources that we all share. Much of this work focuses on precision irrigation water management tools that make agronomic, environmental and financial sense. This includes soil moisture monitoring using cellular telemetry, remote pivot management, contaminant hydrology, and the integration of real-time climate information into decision-making tools.
We provide unbiased research that allows farmers to make pragmatic management decisions about how and when to apply supplemental irrigation. We collaborate with University of Minnesota Extension specialists, engineers, and educators to meet rapidly changing research needs and deliver educational programming that is responsive to the irrigators of Minnesota.
