Work Experience
I’ve always worked in education. While I began as a high school English teacher, I soon turned my efforts to Montessori School administration and then youth employment programs and policy. In the 1980’s, I joined the University of Minnesota Extension youth development faculty where I’ve pursued applied research, community program development, educational curriculum for nonformal learning, and youth worker education and training.
Current Role
Director, The Youth Work Institute, a university-based professional development program to strengthen youth workers and youth programs. Faculty member, Youth Development Leadership M.Ed. Program, College of Education & Human Development, a professional studies master’s degree for those working with and behalf of young people.
Extension Professor and Assistant Director, Extension Center for Youth Development, pursuing applied youth development research, nonformal learning and community outreach in areas of youth worker education, program quality, youth work history and philosophy.
