This grant covered the travel expenses for the University of Minnesota faculty who delivered the four-week program. In addition, the grant covered transportation, teacher salaries and meals for the students and faculty who participated in the program.

2004 and 2005

White Earth Tribal and Community College Extension Program

Amount: $10,000

The Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES) grant to the White Earth Tribal and Community College funded the summer program for two years, covering the travel costs for the University of Minnesota faculty who delivered the four-week summer program.

2002 and 2003

Minnesota Campus Compact Quality Improvement Grant

Amount: $18,000

This grant was used to develop and use a school forest and traditional Native American garden on the Circle of Life School grounds within the White Earth Reservation, integrating that development into a continuation of the Science and Math Program. The school forest and traditional garden allowed the teachers to expand the hands-on learning opportunities throughout the academic year.

1999 - 2001

University of Minnesota Extension Comprehensive Grants Program

Amount: $42,500

This grant funded the first three years of the program. Extension covered the travel expenses for faculty teaching at White Earth each summer. In addition, a graduate research assistant was hired to provide input on the program design, delivery and evaluation on a daily basis.

Extension funds covered expenses for field trips to Itasca State Park, Hamden Slough, and Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge.

Classroom teaching supplies and film to record the classes each day were covered by the Extension grant.
