About the Program
Education for Stormwater Professionals and Communities
The goal of the Extension Stormwater Education Program (SEP) is to promote an environmentally sound Water Resources Management & Policy Implementation.
We work to reach out to elected officials through NEMO (Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials). NEMO is a nationally recognized educational program for local elected and appointed decision makers addressing the relationship between land use and natural resource protection.
Northland NEMO is a collaborative of organizations in Minnesota and Wisconsin with working groups currently in the Twin Cities Metro Area and the Western Lake Superior Basin. Northland NEMO partners work together to offer educational programming, provide resources, and create effective tools to assist and enable communities to make informed decisions regarding land use and natural resources.
Our mission is to help Minnesota and Wisconsin communities better protect natural resources while accommodating growth and redevelopment. To learn more about this program, go to our NEMO Website.
We also promote innovative stormwater best management practices among the stormwater practitioners through locally tailored workshops currently known as Stormwater U.
These workshops focus on important stormwater issues facing Municipal
Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) operators such as cities and watersheds. Stormwater
U workshops are designed to help MS4’s meet their stormwater permit minimum control
measure requirements and are designed and developed by a collaborative team including
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, MetCouncil, local agencies, and University of
Minnesota. All courses include presentations, hands on learning, and peer discussions
with all workshop materials available on our website.
