Are your residents shopping locally?

Retail sales are not spread evenly across the state. People can travel to other regions to spend their money. We can graphically see how retail purchases per capita vary across the state. In the maps below, a maroon color indicates that local retailers are losing over 40% of the expected retail dollars to other areas. The blue counties are places that are attracting the consumer dollar from outside their local community. Expected sales are adjusted for population and average income.
