Family Mealtime Online Course: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much does this course cost?

This course is free.

Q: How do I register for the course?

Registration is easy! See step-by-step instructions here.

Q: How long will I have access to the course?

Once you register, you will have access to the course for 60 days. You should receive a reminder a couple of weeks before your access is set to expire.

Q: Do I need to complete the course all at once?

You can go in and out of the course as often as you like. Since this is an online course, it can be completed at your own pace. Be sure to keep the Internet ID and password you receive when you register.

Q: How much time can I expect to spend on this course?

The time spent on the course will vary by individual. You can expect to spend approximately one hour at your computer going through the course. Additional time should be spent looking at the recommended resources.

Q: Can I receive documentation for the time spent in the workshop?

Yes! After you have completed the workshop, you will be asked to complete an online quiz. After successfully completing the quiz you will be directed to a webpage to print off your certificate of participation.

Q: Help! I’ve never participated in an online course before.

Moodle, the courseware used for this course, is easy to use. Once you get into the course, everything should be self explanatory. If you want more information on Moodle, watch an online orientation or see the online user guide information that is available. These links will always be available from within the course, in the left navigation bar.

Also, be assured that help will always be available once you register for the course. If you are having Moodle issues, you can send an email to moodle@umn.edu .

Q: Help! I’m having problems registering for the course.

If you are having difficulty registering for the course, first double check that you are using Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer web browsers to register. (People commonly experience “stuck” screens when they use other web browsers, like Google Chrome.)

If you are having difficulties with a specific screen, make sure that you are answering all “required” questions.

If you are not sure what to answer for specific questions, the screen captures (711 K PDF) of each registration system page may help you. Remember, if you do not already have an x500 email account, you will need to create a new guest account. Do NOT create a “sponsored guest account;” you do not need a sponsor for this course.

If none of the above steps help you, contact College of Continuing Education IT at cceinfo@umn.edu or 612-624-4000. Tell them you are trying to get into Family Mealtime Online Course and give them the details about the problem(s) you are experiencing.

If you’ve tried all the above steps and are not getting anywhere with the College of Continuing Eduation IT, please let us know and we will try to assist you. Contact Heather Lee (hmlee@umn.edu; 612-626-6602) and she’ll refer you to additional assistance as needed.

Q: Help! I’ve registered for the course but I can’t remember how to get into (or back into) the course.

Click on the direct course link to access the course. You may wish to save it in your internet browser favorites. Alternatively, you can always go to your MyU page, log it with your username/password, and click on your “my COURSES” tab. This course, in addition to any other UMN online course you have signed up for, will be listed on this web page. (Please note, there may be up to a 12 hour delay from when you register and when the course appears on your MyU course page. You should be able to access the online course immediately however by clicking the direct course link.)

Q: Help! I’ve registered for the course but when I try to log in I keep getting an error message about my username and/or password.

Double check that you are using the right username and/or password. See the next question if you can’t remember your username and/or password.

If you are confident that it is correct and your error message talks about your password “not being strong enough” proceed with trying to enter it anyway. If you’ve entered it and it seems to stop you from proceeding, call UMN Technology Help Services at 612-301-4357.

If you’ve tried the above step and are not getting anywhere, please let us know and we will try to assist you. Contact (hmlee@umn.edu; 612-626-6602) and she’ll refer you to additional assistance as needed.

Q: Help! I’ve registered for the course but I can’t remember my username and/or password.

If you have an x500 username, given to University staff and students, you would have used this username for your course. If you do have an x500 username, you would have used your complete email address (including the @XXX) as your username.

To retrieve your password, call UMN Technology Help Services at 612-301-4357.

If you’ve tried the above step and are not getting anywhere, please let us know and we will try to assist you. Contact (hmlee@umn.edu; 612-626-6602) and she’ll refer you to additional assistance as needed.

Q: Help! I’ve registered for the course but it’s not showing up on my MyU courses page.

Once you register, the course should appear on your my courses page within 12 hours. Go to your MyU page, log it with your username/password, and click on your “my COURSES” tab. This course, in addition to any other UMN online course you have signed up for, will be listed on this web page.

If it is not showing up after 12 hours, this most likely means that when you registered you set up a “sponsored guest account” vs. a regular guest account. You should still be able to access the course by going to the direct course link. Save it to your internet favorites so you can find it easily.

You can also try contacting College of Continuing Education IT at cceinfo@umn.edu or 612-624-4000 and tell them that you suspect you have signed up for a sponsored guest account vs. a regular guest account. Tell them you are trying to get into the Family Mealtime Online Course from your MyU courses tab and tell them the problem you are experiencing.

If you’ve tried all the above steps and are not getting anywhere with the College of Continuing Eduation IT, please let us know and we will try to assist you. Contact Heather Lee (hmlee@umn.edu; 612-626-6602) and she’ll refer you to additional assistance as needed.

Q: Help! I’m having problems within the course itself.

If you are having problems with the general course platform, Moodle, watch an online orientation or see the online user guide information. These links are also available within the course, in the left navigation bar.

If you are having problems, getting a specific element of the course (presentation, link, assessment, etc.) to work, double check that you are using Mozilla Firefox to enter and view the course. If you are not, this is the problem! Download the web browser and use it EVERY TIME you enter, for best usability.

If you are having problems and/or questions with specific content contained in the course, contact Heather Lee (hmlee@umn.edu; 612-626-6602.)

If you’ve tried the above steps and you still have problems, please let us know and we will try to assist you. Contact Heather Lee (hmlee@umn.edu; 612-626-6602) and she’ll refer you to additional assistance as needed.
