What participants say
“The kids requested that we change our snacks for after school. They now ask for milk or juice, preferably low fat milk. No more cookies and brownies, let’s have muffins and fruit. Nice change and it does make a difference what you teach. They take time and wash their hands before they eat. These classes after school have made an impact!”

“Remember me? I was in your class in September. You explained how we need to write a list for grocery shopping and to shop the outside aisle of the grocery store. I thought it was interesting but would it be something I would do? I tried it. I keep an envelope on my counter and write down things I run out of in the kitchen. I shop ads and try to stick to my list. I am not spending as much of my food support money and it lasts me to the end of the month.”

“After you showed the students the proper way to wash their hands, the third graders insisted we take the time to wash our hands before we go to lunch. We take our time and do it right and the third graders are very careful. They remind me every day that we need to wash our hands before lunch. They are bringing healthier snacks from home and reading food labels. They liked the moldy bread experiment – showed them how many germs are around them.”

Following a menu-planning class, a teen parent created a healthy meal for her family for just ten dollars. Using the ideas presented in the class, she used coupons, made a menu plan and stuck to her list while shopping. She wants to continue meal planning because of her immediate success.
