Be a part of making Minnesota Environmental Field Days more Effective by becoming a trained observer!

We would like your involvement in a very exciting project. Over the past two years, a team of environmental educators has been working on a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant with partner institutions of the University of Minnesota, Ohio State University, and the Institute for Learning Innovation to develop an observation tool for Field Days. The observation tool has been through a rigorous development phase, pilot testing, focus groups, and now we would like your help to do a final test this spring. Before you write to sign up, please visit this Extension website for more information about Field Days.

We will be training and sending up to 30 observers to evaluate a Field Day on May 14th (rain date May 15th). Observers will ideally have at least 3 years of experience working in environmental education. They will provide their own transportation to the training in Rogers, and we may be arranging car pools or van transportation to the field day at the Melrose city park on May 14. Each observer will need to participate in both the training and the entire field day program on May 14. The $110 stipend will be paid after you have completed the Field Day observation and turned in your completed observation forms (forms will also be provided at the training session).

The required 4.5 hour training session will be held on May 8 from 8:30 am -1:00 pm at the Cabela's meeting room in Rogers. Lunch and coffee will be provided during this training. A variety of hands-on and group activities will help you comfortably use the observation tool. You will also have plenty of time to shop after the training (just in time for fishing opener).

To register for this unique opportunity, send Dawn Tanner a short email to indicate:

  1. Your interest in attending the training and field day;
  2. A brief description of your experience in the field of environmental education;
  3. A brief note if you participated in the training and observation last fall.

If you have questions or would like more details, please contact: Stephan Carlson at 612-624-8186 (office), or Dawn Tanner.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,
Stephan Carlson
