Cooking Matters® Minnesota

How It Works

About Cooking Matters®

Cooking Matters® is a cooking-based, nutrition education program that empowers people to eat healthier and make the best use of their food resources. Cooking Matters® plays a critical role in Share Our Strength®'s No Kid Hungry campaign which is ending childhood hunger in America by connecting kids in need with nutritious food and teaching how to cook healthy, affordable meals. Participants learn to shop smarter, make healthier food choices, and cook delicious meals.

Established in 1993, Cooking Matters® helps families shop for and cook healthy meals on a limited budget. Nationally, Cooking Matters® has grown to serve more than 100,000 individuals per year. From January 2015 to June 2016, University of Minnesota Extension, with the support of numerous community partners and volunteers, served 3071 Minnesota families.

Our Collaborative Program Model

Cooking Matters® Minnesota's collaborative model combines the resources of the national organization with University of Minnesota Extension’s Health and Nutrition program to deliver exceptional nutrition education at local host sites with the help of volunteers.
