BR&E Toolkit Standard Survey Template

Gathering data from local businesses is the first and primary step in any business retention and expansion program. An objective way to collect this data is through a survey questionnaire or instrument. However, developing a survey instrument is a difficult and time-consuming endeavor. To make this important task user-friendly the BR&E Toolkit program offers members a tried and tested survey instrument called the BREVILLE Survey.

The BREVILLE Survey is the foundational survey instrument used in the BR&E Toolkit Program. The BR&E Strategies Program has used questions from this instrument over the past 18 years and in 55 communities. We encourage BR&E Toolkit members to use the BREVILLE survey instrument as their primary template and customize it with questions from the BR&E Toolkit Question Bank.

Here is how the BR&E Toolkit program works to help you customize and conduct a survey:

  1. You download and install the survey software - SurveyGold
  2. Download the BREVILLE survey to SurveyGold
  3. Through SurveyGold you can edit and customize the BREVILLE survey to your needs
  4. If you need more questions then you can browse through our questionbank and download sections that you like.
  5. After the survey instrument is finalized you can collect responses either through the web, phone or in person visits.
    1. SurveyGold automatically collects and tabulates responses through a web based survey, however in a phone or in-person survey responses must be entered manually.
  6. You can analyze the data collected yourself using SurveyGold or a spreadsheet application (such as Microsoft Excel) or have an Extension Educator analyze the data for you.

* To acquire training on any of the above the BR&E Toolkit offers workshops to get you and your team up to speed.
